wormy and squirmy came to rest upon a cake

the worms crawl in
the worms crawl out
if you want a cute cupcake
you are in the wrong crowd

some visitors fly in the face of squirmy, wormy fare
Flat Moogie, visiting from moogieland
is completely aware
and still has not a care
as long as she gets chocolate on demand
and all rights to the licking spoon

this is where the ucky, yucky baked cakes met their final resting place
the festivities were on and the crowd was smacking their lips
many of the cup sized morsels would be but a brief but sinfully sweet memory

wanna make some of these graveyard delights?

First -
use a cake mix, follow the directions for cupcakes, but put some LUV into it girls, add chocolate milk instead of water, or buttermilk and when it comes to the oil - maybe use that stuff we call butter

Then -
take an 8oz of cream cheese (okay, this could be lowfat), room temperature, and half a bag of semisweet chocolate chips that you have melted carefully on a double boiler on the stove. whip together, add a teaspoon of vanilla for good measure, and approx. 3 cups of powdered sugar. frost right away.

Decorate -
with crumbled oreo cookies (about 7, without the creamy middles), and some gummi sour worms. makes it look like death warmed over at the cemetery.

Flat Moogie will be visiting madlycreative for a few days - so stay tuned to her crazy antics. she is from the south - who knows what that might end up being...

halloween can make you happy

here is my wee little holiday bag
that brings in the halloween cheer
and adds the right amount of dash
to every autumn outfit

here is the cupcake that i ate
it was a gift
fresh from the baker's hands
and went straight to my tummy
via the camera lens
and then, really, went straight into my tummy

a jack o'lantern toothy grin
for all who believe in the pumpkin patch
the tooth fairy
and a good sweet tooth
whose craving was blessedly filled

sewin' it up

sew, you know what i am doing today?
all of that sewing that keeps piling up around the machine
until it cascades to the floor and i stumble, fall, curse, and scream
then i pick the mound up and vow to get to work
today is that day
(i think, i hope, i PRAY)

ever since my first trip through europe and happily, through finland
i stop for the designs and colorways of marimekko
i found this large cotton shirt at the thrift store for a dollar
today, before even getting dressed to for the almost autumnal weather outdoors
(1o days ago in the high 90's!!)
i took up the shoulder seams and a little tapering at the sides

can't stop making these creatures
they sprung from a knit "tart and cookie" pattern
but somehow they became alive
knit monsters from outeryarnspace

this maybe the face of the pinkypurl alien
or it may just be a cry from me for help
lift the curse of insane stitching up of otherworldly fluff and squish

cupcake anyone? this one is lavender laced
precious!! purfectly purpley pink calories - ohhhhh

the top
worn with my lucky charms necklace that changes daily
rolled up jeans
silver converse sneaks
and a coat
'cuz it got cold here

(ps when i have to work for rent, i can't seem to create so much. now i am "inbetween" temp gigs, looking for the next buck, but having a great time returning to my creative homefront. can i ever find a life that somehow offers both? oh, i am so ever trying....)

when you need to be sweet on yourself

i am feeling a little down
a little frosting pick-me-up will do
let the frosting be blue and not you, i said
the dog ate the crumbs as if i never bothered to feed him at all
he is scandalous that way
so willful
until you mention sugary carbs
then you have a slobbering love slave - for a grand moment, anyways

where is that reward on best intentions
fine scheming
and many plates twirling in place?
i would honor a sound blessing today with open arms
and a full heart

sigh

It's in a cup, it is a cake - It's CakeCups!

We always like to play with our food - that's a given. And we love to play dress up. Makes absolute sense that we would go wacky over little, petite cakes that we get to make purdy and then devour. Enter the realm of my cupcake world - if you dare.

Knit cupcakes with pinkishly cute flavor. A cupcake for all seasons. One you can constantly admire and reminds you of the favorite snack that you should be on your way to purchase, immediately, if you had your way.

So, have it your way Darling!

Hats that look like cupcakes are also an essential. You must have the proper clothing accessories while admiring the object of your desire, planning it's eventual demise, asking yourself that all
important question -

Do I eat all of the frosting off first, or save some for with the cake?

You know that you are being, well, obsessive, when you make photo cards of the cake in the cup, put them in picture frames, send them onto friends to salivate over. Buy copious amounts of cute literature telling you how to create more and more and more of them in all of their earthly forms.

So, if you are in need of cupcake solace, a friend in arms when they try to come and take your cupcakes away from you just when you were having the most fun,

I am here for you.

(And I can hook you up - mainline you some of the Cupcakes accessories any girl would ever need. Or just let you cry on my shoulder, and hold the cupcake away from those salty tears so that we have something good to eat when we come to our collective senses)

My Partner in Cupcake Crime today : Ms. Girlichief!!
She is having a great giveaway - go here see cupcakes and die happy

Zombie Cupcakes

Well, in my cupcake craziness - I began to KNIT the damn baked goods, hoping that in some meager way, calories would be burned and I would not have to spurn the semifrequent protestations for my baked version of these little buddies.

A totally rockin' friend - who also happens to work in a cupcake shop - wanted some rather radical cupcakes for her very own. She requested the colors and that the eyes have "X's" and that they be wearing scarves. I was off! And they just created themselves after that - spawned on the knitting needles, they called their "Zombie" selves into being.

The little "cupcakes gone wrong" arrived on just the right day - catch the color of new Zombie Mistress's nails? Match made in heaven!

I am proud to say that the job was well done. The Zombies were very happily received. And immediately began trying to eat one another.

And then tried to eat some of the other occupants in the pastry case. Naughty little Zombie cupcakes!

Needless to say - they had to be separated from the crowd. The other more "vanilla" cupcakes were complaining of their less the neighborly behavior. One or two of said cupcakes had wounds and had to be put down. Oh, the horror!

I must say that I also received yet another blog award in less than 24 hours! From dear Ms. Girlichef right over here. Thanks to Ms. Umama (oh mama) again. He he - it was the same award, too! I will be catching up with my posting on this award and my recipients very soon - after I tame a few more Zombies. I am in a temporary sugar high - awards, cupcakes - gotta put this mojo to good use!

Cupcake Shennanigans

Which one is my treat for clearing up the closet and creative corner and which is the tiny morsel that I am working on instead of other projects screaming for attention?

Happy Mums Day!

My cupcakes gotta little brown -sigh- trying to do to much at once, yet again. Ah well, the baked beans that I have had cooking since last night for the Mother's Day BBQ at my sister's will make up for any baking discrepancy. Mind you, with my great "cover it with frosting" trick, they might just pass unnoticed for their little bit of overindulgence in the warm glow of my oven.

Totally unhealthy, unnatural, and so sinfully good. Frosting with coconut and canned pie cherries for a buttercream based wonder of a frosting. Everything in life should be coated in frosting, just at least once...yes, I am certain this would work out all sorts of social issues and public disputes. Let's implement that soon, shall we?

I took photos of the hanging fuchsia baskets yesterday and this is my prize photo - I am temporarily infatuated with these colors - oh my.

These double headed dark lilacs were a gift from my friend, Deb, and the crazy purple tam o' shanter is a hat I made for my Mom (the utmost lover of all things purple) for part of her Mother's day gift. I made the hat on a whim, without a pattern, and it, well - it is really a bit of artwork to wear. All those lovely little points I made upon decreasing - it may in fact be too silly for Mom. I may have to wear it myself and make her another less outrageous hat. Grin.

My headband has a tasty treat attached

I am stuck on a theme at the moment - it could be cupcakes have taken over my sweet tooth and my sensibilities. If you aren't keen on bakery items yourself, this posting may be difficult for you to stomach. After all, you really have to like the sweet life of carbs to wanna wear a headband with a bit of fake frosting and jimmies on it.
Luckily my friend loves to indulge in my bit of creative baking - even if this one means she will be calorie free for the day, since she's wearing the cupcake instead of eating it. (Don't worry - I actually made a quadruple batch of blond brownies today, with coconut, chocolate chips and walnuts - extra thick and downright gooey. She wasn't really deprived. I reimburse my models for their assistance very well. Well, at least that's what I think...)
This wasn't my original idea. I saw a similar cupcake headband and wanted to make a couple myself. Can't take all the credit. But if imitation is the highest form of flattery, then I have been doing a lot of praising these last two days. I have made four headbands. Wow, I'm cupcake crazy.

My little niece who is not even 2 yet will be wearing the first one. She already loves to pretend she is making things in her little kitchen and her hair is growing longer by the minute. She has begun to have more patience letting the "pretties" stay in her hair. Can hardly wait. That will be a great photo in the making.

Sweet! I am back online again!

Oh my, oh golly - how wonderful to have my little fingers caressing the keyboard of my laptop once again! I have grown quite accustomed to this particular strain of creativity (that wondrous thing called blogging) , and relish the fact that not only do I have it back, but I have some fun new tools (Photoshop CS4!!) to begin to learn and play with! Watch out, world - Mama's gotta brand new toy - and she ain't gonna be afraid to use it none, either!

So, in honor of my sweet return - I wanted to share some photos that are tickling my sweet tooth at the moment. Cupcakes, of course, are always on the top of my indulgence list... I made these for my friends and they were lemony lemon, through and through.

Next would have to be my dear friend wrapped up in this boa of pinkness. A gift from a departing friend (we miss you Pinky!) How lovely can it be to have a friend that brings you gifts at her own going away gathering? Yep, we are blessed.

Last but not least - these amazingly colorful crayons from Wacky Crayons. I am in special love with Dragonflies, so this particular shape had great resonance with me. I wanted to just sit down and color all day, but I was with my Mom and she still won't let me do those things - even though I am old enough to disagree with her and have my own way. Damn - I gotta grow out of that sometime soon. In the meantime, I'll just get on the Internet (hehe! so nice to have my computer back - I can't even tell you!) and order some to play with on my own. I'll tell you all about it later - maybe encourage you to start coloring too.

Sweet Delights

I had to share the luscious, yummy, waistband extending side of the Easter holiday with you, since I shared all the birthing pains of the notorious chickies. This above is my brother's addition to the weekend brunch held at my sister's - Stuffed French Toast ala Paula Dean ( of Georgia and the Food Network). Peanut butter, thick slabs of banana, succulent bacon, good wheat bread, dipped in egg batter and the pan fried with crunchy bits of pecan and cereal on top and then laced with jam. Heavenly.
No surprises that I made the cupcakes. I love to make my cupcakes. These were chocolate "made from scratch" cake with a coconut buttercream frosting and dressed up to look like little Easter nests. My sister and all loved them.
My Mom a couple of years ago began dying her eggs along the ways of Martha Stewart. These are wrapped in colorful slips of silk, with a layer of plain cotton and then cooked in a bath of water and vinegar. They are marbleized works of art each and every year. Too pretty to eat, perhaps...naw!!
These are the "loopy" chickies - the last of a long line of little yarn McDoddles to come from my hands. By far the most time intensive. Three models, 32 chickies in all - now, flown the coop - except for about six that I kept for myself, and one to be sent full of chocolate to a friend in SF tomorrow. Whew and a sigh of relief. I actually kinda don't know what to do with myself.....
