Yarny Blarney

I feel like a wee bit of a yarn leprechaun - spreading her rainbow of fiberous "gold" about my town. This is a photo of my recently secured yarn stash for arting out that I got the last weekend, along with my damaged little index finger (which twinges now but has finally allowed me back to my knitting needles these last two says - whew!)

My living room was taken over by balls of yarn rolling, crawling everywhere. I always need some kind order after awhile - otherwise my sanity starts to become unhinged. Just a little bit - so that things don't look too out of hand - like, I have lost my sanity and it's more important for the yarn to have a life than for me to be able to sit down anywhere.

So, I color coordinated them, and began putting them in yarn "cairns" - but I really needed more than that effort - they were so keen to run away ( it's summer and everything seems to be mating).

This is the knit up that was meant to go up days ago (boo hoo) but will just have to wait until tomorrow. It goes on a pole that has free poop bags for humans walking their dogs. It's meant to say Dog's Best Friend - you' ll get it when you see it up tomorrow (fingers crossed!)

This is a sly little peek at what I am sending to Grrl + Dog for the upcoming installation at the museum next month. Some of the locals saw me working on it down at the cafe today - they were getting mighty excited to see a bit of the town make it all the way across the globe. Yeah knitting!

When I scored all the unloved yarn last weekend, I also scored a lot of little bits of knitting a crochet that are fast becoming the base and springboard off which I jump into my Knit Ups for my Yarn Bombing. A lot of work still goes into each piece, but I pick up stitches and knit around the found bits that I have - makes for a more interesting piece of work. Some Knit Ups have both crochet AND knitting - like the little blue and pink piece out in the park (that is what that lovely stitch was, Grrl, a bit of salvaged crochet!)

Alas - the lovely little girly bit of knit graffiti has already left the park - at whose hands, I have yet to know. My other bit on the pole with the sign is still happily puttering along.

I outed myself as a "knit tagger" to my favorite man in blue - and he couldn't imagine why anyone would want to mess with my heartfelt "installations". But he is sworn to secrecy - but, hey, that is one more soul for Yarnachy!

Color code

Color consciousness - I was drawn to the same colors all day this past weekend, and this had nothing to do with the slammed finger in the door ( which is a nice shade of purple today, thank you). I just got home, downloaded the photos and thought " here now - what's this lovely bit of unexpected tonal serendipity ?".

Have you ever been to Sienna, Italy? The place where the walls of the city match those charcoal pencils you use in art classes. Years before exploration of the wild world beyond leads you to realize that there is earth that actually matches the pencil you so inexpertly wield in your hand. This color reminds me of Italia.

While in Italy once I had a phenomenal experience with the number 8 - and life was greatly changed after that. I have an 18 kt gold, commissioned in Florence, number 8 charm to help reclaim that poignant moment for me. The above shot is all about memories for me - good memories.

Walking with friends, who hold my paper cup full of ice to sooth my "slammed in the door" digit. Somehow I manage with the rest of my fingers to take random photos that draw me every few yards I walk. My friends wait with patience and understanding. My antics never seem too unreasonable or strange to them. God, I love them.

Biggest score of the weekend - two huge tubs full of neglected yarn and semifinished projects. I need more yarn like another hole in the head - but home it goes. Packaged up candidates to donate to the local senior center, the rest separated by tone and color. What to do to make less than pretty yarn shout love me?

Pom Poms!

I am on a knitting graffiti roll this month - I will be arting out everyday - and this found treasure will be the source of my creative craftivism. Thanks for the gifted materials, Universe.

The Universe provides - even when we feel somehow adrift. Small answers to larger, still pending questions. But I will play with my new toys, smile and dedicate time to the cause. Ever hopeful that a bigger picture is unfolding, but in sure knowledge that today - I have a mission, however small.

Yes, a little yarn bombing would be nice, please

Okay - mission accomplished! I have been wanting to do my "art installation" work for sometime now (check out this link here and here for previous yarn mischievousness). I kinda fell off my own favorite bandwagon (the yarn bombing, knit graffiti bandwagon that is), but it was never far from my heart or spirit. Ahh, the dreams I dream for my little town. If I had it my way, they would never know what hit them and then be catapulted to pseudo-fame in the realms of the the "craftivists" (yeah, that's crafty folk with an anarchist bent, that is!) People would flock to see the wee bits of yarn stuck in uncommon local spots and smile happily, content in the knowledge that soft and fluffy graffiti was spreading like tribbles.

If you want to be inspired, visit one of my favorite spots here and receive your call to arms. excuse me, yarns. You could even be taught how to act out yarnfully right here, by reading a book about the incredible manifestation of this radical craft.

This is a pole that is topped with an information plaque explaining about local plant life and their importance to we human's existence. Art, in it's various forms, is also life nurturing. Besides, the pole was currently available (though, did request we not post it's number or any other personal information).

I drove by a few minutes ago - it is still up, in tact, has so far escaped the dreaded parks department militia and hopefully attracting a few bemused looks.

Ahhhh - onto more acts of radical craftiness.
